I received my Bachelor’s in Accounting from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Master’s in Accounting from Oklahoma State University, and Ph.D. in accounting from Oklahoma State University. After briefly serving on the faculty at the University of Utah, I moved back to my home state in 2000 and joined the University of Oklahoma. I currently serve as the David C. Steed Chair in Accounting at the Price College of Business.
I primarily teach financial and intermediate accounting. I have been fortunate to numerous teaching awards at the department, college, university, state, and national levels, including being named Outstanding Accounting Educator by the Oklahoma Society of CPAs and receiving the Cook Prize from the American Accounting Association for undergraduate teaching excellence.
My research interests include accounting information in capital markets, earnings manipulation techniques, the importance of financial disclosures, and financial statement analysis. I’ve published in The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, Accounting, Organizations and Society, and several other journals. I also served in editorship roles for The Accounting Review, Accounting Horizons, and Journal of International Accounting Research. I received the Competitive Manuscript Award from the American Accounting Association and was named a George Lynn Cross Research Professor, the University of Oklahoma’s highest research designation.
Most of all, I love spending time with my family. I’m married to Julee, and we have four children and five grandchildren. My hobbies include tennis, golf, biking, the outdoors, volunteer activities, and all family activities.
